We are pleased to inform you that the ‘he waka eke noa’- pricing agriculture emissions workprogramme will be travelling to Te Tai Tokerau to discuss the government’s proposals. The Ministry for Primary Industries and the Ministry for the Environment will be in attending hui in your rohe to discuss the proposal with you.
The Government plans to introduce a farm-level levy on agricultural greenhouse gas emissions in Aotearoa New Zealand from 2025. It has released its proposals on how they might make this happen (see https://consult.environment.govt.nz/climate/agriculture-emissions-and-pricing/). Feedback and submissions are being sought between 11 October and 18 November 2022.
These are proposals that may impact you as a farmer, grower, and business owner as well as for collectively-owned land.
In our attempt to acknowledge the feedback we have received to date, we are making the trip to the North and will be holding hui at 3 different locations. We have tailored two of these hui specifically for Māori community so that we can share information and support responses.
