Kia ora koutou

Please share the attachments with our Kawenata landholders regarding the Biodiversity credit system discussion document that Minister Shaw released and announced on Friday 7 July. The discussion document explores the potential for a biodiversity credit system in Aotearoa NZ (as well as the release of the NPSIB).

This is the first step in what will be a long process, the intention is to hear from the public about their thoughts on a potential credit system. Consultation is going to be open for a total of 17 weeks from 7 July through to 3 November. There will be a bunch of engagement throughout this period including: 6 regional hui (joined up with ETS meetings), a bunch of webinars (likely including an internal one for interested people at DOC). DOC are hoping to organise some further regional engagement through the DOC Ops people.

Further info is hosted on the MFE website, including the consultation page: https://environment.govt.nz/what-government-is-doing/areas-of-work/biodiversity/biodiversity-credits-an-incentive-to-support-conservation-efforts/

The attached documents discuss a biodiversity credit system and the writers are keen to receive feedback from tangata whenua.

An online hui is being proposed.

If you are keen to be involved in the discussion please email Whakarae Henare whenare@doc.govt.nz to confirm.

If you have any pātai please let me know.
