E ngā mana nui, e ngā mana roa, e ngā mana whakatiketike, tēnei te tuku i ngā reo whakamīhā o Pouhere Taonga ki runga i ngā hau tāiki kia toro atu i āna whakamānawa ki ngā iwi o te motu, tēnā koutou katoa.

Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga is excited to announce the launch of a second round of Mātauranga Māori Contestable Grants. There are 12 grants of up to $25,000 available to marae, hapū, whānau and hāpori Māori for projects that support the revitalisation of Mātauranga Māori relating to Ancestral Landscapes and Māori Built Heritage.

Ancestral Landscapes Grants

Māori ancestral landscapes are a vital part of Te Ao Māori. We understand the importance of kōrero tuku iho and its place within iwi Māori. There are six grants available to support wānanga or hikoi focused on the retention and transmission of kōrero tuku iho associated with ngā tapuwae o ngā tūpuna, wāhi tapu, and wāhi tūpuna.

Māori Built Heritage Grants

Māori Built Heritage are unique taonga in their construction and artwork expression. There’s also six grants available to support wānanga and/or hikoi associated with traditional building practices, especially the architectural heritage of our marae.

Caring for these taonga can be a challenge requiring specialist knowledge in both traditional and modern preservation techniques. We recognise the importance of revitalisation and retention of vulnerable mātauranga Māori within these two areas and we are excited to have this opportunity to support and assist whānau, marae, hapū, iwi, and hāpori Māori across the motu with projects that ensure the sustainability of mātauranga Māori.

Expressions of Interest may be submitted from the 25th of November until the 20th of December.
