Tena koutou,

recently there have been efforts to rid the Kowhairau Historic Reserve, which was a piece of whenua returned to the iwi through the settlement process, of pests and exotic fauna.

A team of 12 locally employed people and students from Taipa Kura and have spent numerous nights at the reserve trapping pests such as possums, stoats and rats but also removing exotic fauna so as to restore the reserve to its natural state.

In the near future there is a hopes to build a nursery so as to rejuvenate the reserve with locally sourced trees/plants and also assist with the build of a Marae for Te Komanga.

Nga Mihi to Roger Kingi for leading the project and his team of tauira.
