Tēnā koutou katoa,

The University of Otago’s Māori Health Workforce Development Unit is pleased to announce that applications for the WHAI Chemistry and WHAI Physics Scholarships are open and will be closing on November 15.

These scholarships are designed to support Māori secondary school students who are interested in building a strong foundation in Chemistry or Physics and are considering a future in the health sciences at Otago.

The WHAI Scholarships provide early access to science learning opportunities and help build confidence in either Physics or Chemistry and prepare students for university-level study in health sciences and related pathways.

Selected scholarship recipients will receive:

• Access to academic further resources and support in University of Otago papers: PHSI191 and CHEM191 as part of their first year of study.
• Opportunities to engage in kaupapa Māori spaces and connect with other Māori students interested in science and health.

These scholarships are a great opportunity for Māori students who:

• Are wanting to strengthen their Chemistry or Physics knowledge before starting university.
• Aspire to study in the Health Sciences, Biomedical, or Science pathways.

Eligibility: Applicants must:

Be of Māori descent (Māori whakapapa).

Meet the entry criteria for JumpStart Physics or CHEM150.
